Today we explored the Stockmans Hall of Fame.

We started the day with a healthy dose of family exercise. Craig did a 5km walk and I did a HIIT workout at the caravan park. Harvey accompanied me while Annabelle rode her bike beside Craig. I love that our kids are exploring our wonderful country from a healthy, balanced and active perspective. Both kids love coming with us for our workouts and Craig and I love sharing it.

Arriving at the Stockmans Hall of Fame was a sight. I remember photos of my grandparents there probably 30 years ago. We did the obligatory photo outside the building.

But what we saw inside was truly more than we could have expected. The history of the Australian Outback told from the perspective of Aboriginal Peoples, pioneers, immigrants, stockman/woman, shearer’s, graziers and farmers. The history of this vastly untouched land is so rich and varied that we got the sense we’ve only scratched the surface.

Our highlights:

Royal Flying Doctors display put everything together for us from the display in Charleville and the QANTAS museum.

The Indigenous perspectives shared were very special, from seeing my Aunty Denise’s brother Charlie’s story and artwork, to the many, many stories from white fellas telling us how they couldn’t do what they do without Traditional Landowners sharing their knowledge and experience.

The huge number of old equipment and machinery was incredible. We were able to show the kids old telephones, we saw old wool sorting machines and an old wagon (to name a few). There really was so much stuff to see!

We finished the day with a stroll through town and dinner with the family. Annabelle and Harvey both really enjoyed spending time with Uncle John and Aunty Shell, even talking about them today on our dinosaur tour.
